Product Development – Special Characteristics

This VDA publication serves as a starting point for identifying, determining, specifying, tracking, documenting, and archiving special characteristics. These characteristics must be agreed upon between customer and supplier throughout the entire product development process chain.

The publication provides recommendations for the practical application of important and critical characteristics, while ensuring compliance with framework conditions defined in standards and legislation. As a background process model, the VDA publication “Maturity Level Assurance for New Parts” is used, with examples drawn from that guideline. Where applicable, a company’s own internal product development process may also be used.
