What is Product Audit VDA 6.5?
Product audits serve as a tool for management in the independent evaluation of products from the customer’s perspective and to ensure that complaints do not arise from deficiencies in products and their characteristics. Product audits also indicate opportunities for continuous improvement.
The automotive industry’s requirement standard IATF 16949 includes requirements for product audits according to section 9.2.2.4:
“The organization shall audit products using customer-specific methods at appropriate stages of production and delivery to verify conformity to specified requirements. The organization shall define product audit procedures unless otherwise specified by the customer.”
The VDA reference manual “Product Audits VDA 6.5” describes a general approach for planning and conducting product audits.e

Why?
The automotive industry’s requirement standard contains requirements for conducting product audits. The working method is described in a Swedish translation and is about 50 pages long. It outlines a method for selecting the right products and the right characteristics for audit based on customer requirements and strategic importance.
