What is PSCR – Product Integrity?
PSCR (Product Safety and Conformity Representative) is about ensuring product safety and compliance with requirements throughout the entire product lifecycle. This relatively new concept is relevant for all companies, not just those supplying safety-classified products.
Product integrity includes both product safety and conformity with product requirements. Many manufacturers have introduced requirements for a “Product Safety Representative” to ensure that the entire supply chain works proactively with these issues, often in combination with a structured Product Compliance System (PCS). This often involves the use of Automotive Core Tools to manage risks and improve product quality.
A common misconception is that PSCR – Product Integrity only concerns companies that handle safety items. In fact, it covers all products that may pose a risk in case of deviations or misuse.
Why?
Working with PSCR – Product Integrity is crucial to minimizing the risks of deviations and ensuring that products meet necessary requirements.
Preventive work: Product safety representatives ensure that every step in the supply chain works proactively with product safety.
Broad relevance: PSCR does not only concern safety-classified items but all products that may cause harm if used incorrectly or if deviations occur.
Compliance: By implementing PSCR, companies meet industry requirements for safety and responsibility throughout the product lifecycle.
Who?
PSCR – Product Integrity is relevant for all organizations that manufacture, handle, or distribute products with potential risks, especially those that follow standards like IATF 16949 to ensure the highest possible product quality.
Manufacturers that need to meet strict requirements from their customers.
Companies in the automotive and manufacturing industries where safety and quality are critical.
Organizations that need to strengthen their management systems with a focus on product safety and product responsibility.
Training in PSCR – Product Integrity
We are approved by VDA QMC to provide training in Product Integrity, and the training material for the 2-day course is in Swedish. The training consists of five modules and includes, among other things, work during the product lifecycle, delegation rules, and deviation handling.
Working with product safety and product integrity requires knowledge of management systems – where both product responsibility and work environment, according to for example ISO 45001, play an important role in ensuring safe and sustainable processes.
In addition to training, we can help you review your management system to ensure product safety and responsibility, including Maturity Level Assurance (MLA) and process control to ensure that all stages of the product lifecycle are under control.
Literature
The VDA publication “Product Integrity” was presented in 2017 and is currently available in both Swedish and English versions in our webshop. The book is 50 pages long and follows the five modules that the training material is structured around.
Frequently asked questions about PSCR
What is the difference between PSCR and PSR (Product Safety Representative)?
PSCR (Product Safety and Conformity Representative) focuses on both product safety and regulatory compliance, while PSR primarily addresses product safety. PSCR includes a broader focus on ensuring that all products meet safety and compliance requirements throughout their lifecycle.
Why is PSCR important for companies outside the automotive industry?
Although PSCR is common in the automotive sector, it is also valuable for companies in other industries with complex supply chains or strict safety requirements. It helps reduce risk, improve product quality, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
How do you prepare for a PSCR role?
To become a PSCR, you should have a solid understanding of product safety, risk management, and relevant standards like IATF 16949 and ISO 45001. Practical experience and formal training in product safety and conformity are also essential.
