PQ FMEA SOFTWARE - OVERVIEW

There are several ways to use software to do a risk analysis using AIAG & VDA FMEA. For just over a year now, Ford has been demanding the use of software in its customerspecific requirements

The essential thing is that the socalled sevenstep model is followed in the right order and that the structural analysis is done with a crossfunctional team.

What is PQ FMEA

PQ FMEA is a program developed in Poland by PROQUAL that is available in several languages (Swedish is being developed) a way to determine risks for e.g. a product, a process or a system. Instead of allowing only discussions and strong individuals to influence the order of priority for risks for a phenomenon, an FMEA provides a standardized way of coming to agreements:

In the new version of FMEA, developed by AIAG & VDA, the way of finally evaluating the risks has been improved with the aim of making the method become an engine in a continuous work with risk minimisation and improvements. Five Vs form the basis for work with FMEA according to the new way of working.

  • What is the InTent of the  FMEA (for this project)
  • What are our Time frames?
  • Who should be in the Team
  • What Tasks need to be performed
  • What Tools are to be used

Why PQ FMEA?

A Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) can be performed for example:

  • Evaluation of possible technical risks of failure of a product or processanalysis
  • Causes and effects of such failures
  • Identification and planning of prevention and detection measures

Advantages with PQ FMEA

Carrying out risk analyses according to AIAG & VDA FMEA with the PQ FMEA software provides the following benefits, among other things:

  • Aligned according to AIAG/VDA
  • Constantly updated against relevant standards
  • Good connection between FMEA, control plan flow chart
  • Relatively simple software
  • Intuitive user interface
  • Possibility of customization

Tools

PQ FMEA from PROQUAL gives you the opportunity to easily work with basic and family FMEA according to the 7step model in AIAG & VDA and develop action plans and control plans for individual products.

You work in the program with a tree structure with:

  • Structural Analysis Black Tree
  • Functional Analysis Green Tree
  • Failure Analysis Red Tree

A Swedish software version is under development and is expected to be available in Q1, 2025.Read more on PQFMEAs website.

Development and training in FMEA

Performing risk analysis in FMEA is and has always beensimple”, but it has also historically been simple to make mistakes and mix cause and effect (error effect and wrong cause). With the graphical interface in PQ FMEA, this risk is reduced, but we recommend basic training and in some cases combined with training as a coordinator

  • Basic (VDA 442); Two days of basic training for people who are going to work with risk analysis, but who want to learn AIAG & VDA FMEA in the basics.
  • Coordinator (Own product); One day of extra training in FMEA coordination containing: Challenges, crossfunctional collaboration, prioritization of (several) results, reporting of results, conflict management and facilitation.
